Our little mission house on the hill. We live in a small part of it.

More detail on the Colombia trip.

NEM

On March 11, 2009, I traveled to Colombia, S.A. My trip was for the specific purpose of accompanying my two adult children to visit their native country, where they were adopted from 25 years ago. Two years ago, my husband and I had made the same trip with our other adopted son, Gabriel, and had had a measure of success in our endeavors. Nevertheless, we had exhausted all resources in trying to find traces to Nathaniel and Danelle’s birth roots. Still, they wanted to see the hospital where they were born, the place where they were adopted from, and the house in which we had lived while we served as missionaries in that land.

Our friend, Leonel, could not accompany us to seek out information on their roots, so he asked Ricardo, someone our family did not know previously, to take us. Shortly after arriving at the adoption office, as we looked through Nathaniel’s records, (Danelle’s never showed up), Ricardo waited by the door. As soon as he heard the name “Vladimir”, Nathaniel’s given name, Ricardo mentioned that many years ago a child by that name had been left in his mother’s care. “What’s her name,?” I asked, and it was immediately confirmed that it was the same person! What excitement and emotion followed! Ricardo has 6 siblings, he being the oldest and the breadwinner for his family at the time. The rest of the week was a continual family reunion where they all celebrated the long lost child whom they had fostered and loved more than 25 years ago. They filled in previously unknown details about Nathaniel’s birth mother and about his antics as a toddler, and he even had his picture taken on what used to be his bed and with some of the toys he had played with! The rest of the week was a continual family reunion! We’re sure this was all ordered by God, and we praise Him for that.

We also had the privilege of visiting the work of NEM. The Lord is doing amazing things through their ministry. The project for the children at risk is well underway. Seventy five children attend the Bethany school. Parents, intrigued over the change in their children, are asking questions. The children and the parents are receiving medical and dental care, administered by Gigliola Ortiz and Claudia Ortiz, and they are also attending workshops where they will learn the basics of hygiene and child care. Through care care received through these ministries, they will come to know the love God has for them.

Greetings from the Wood´s April 2009

Resting… At the moment we are in the Poconos for a get-away weekend at the Missionary Retreat Fellowship. Here we met up with Doug and Linda Lee, old time friends from our days at Bethany Bible School. The kids expected to go sledding and snow boarding, but snow is nowhere in sight. Typical of this time of year, we have seen the temperature change from 6*F to 65*F and back down to 10*F within five days!
Ministry… Again, thank you for praying for our Latino mission events. Our next seminar, “Missions and My Church”, will be from April 1-4 for a group of pastors and mission leaders. At the end of April we will have a work team from Trinity Church in Nebraska come to bless us with their labor of love in caring for the WEC property after a long hard winter. They will also have the opportunity to minister cross-culturally in Latino and African-American contexts.

Family News… Our big news is that Gabriel is now engaged to a wonderful young lady whom we love dearly. They are planning a Fall wedding. Kate and Gabriel were best friends at West Point and graduated from the same class last May. Currently they are both Army Officers stationed in Savannah, Georgia. As you can imagine, we are very excited for them!

Two years ago we accompanied Gabriel to Colombia, to retrace his roots in his native land. Well, Daisy just returned from Colombia with Nathaniel and Danelle where they saw God open amazing doors… Our friend, Leonel, could not accompany them to seek out information on their roots, so he asked Ricardo, someone our family did not know previously, to take them. Shortly after arriving at the adoption office, as they looked through Nathaniel’s records, (Danelle’s never showed up), Ricardo waited by the door. As soon as he heard the name “Vladimir”, Nathaniel’s given name, Ricardo mentioned that many years ago a child by that name had been left in his mother’s care. “What’s her name?”, Daisy asked, and it was immediately confirmed that it was the same person! We’re sure this was all ordered by God, and we praise Him for that. We’ll continue to seek avenues to help Danelle find her roots, and in the not so distant future, we’ll be doing the same for Adely, Ricky and Anthony!

Continued prayer request: After a year of other treatments, our 19 year old niece, Emily Miller, had a stem cell transplant for a resistant type of lymphoma cancer. Current reports indicate that preliminary results are positive! PLEASE continue to pray for the Lords’ intervention and healing throughout this period. Emily’s desire is that the Lord may be glorified as the medical community recognizes His healing hand upon her.

Adely Daddy's little girl. 8/10/08

Adely Daddy's little girl. I'm so proud of you. Taking the time to Go on your missions trip to help others and coming back more in tune to Jesus. My prayer is that you will continue to grow and find more life in Christ than you will ever realize. The way of the world is a dead end street. Over my years I have seen so many go that way and Oh what heartaches they have created. Plus what a headaches as I think of some now. So Adely I want you to be the Example to lead other In life. All what you do and say will affect others. You should be a EXAMPLE to the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 1Timothy4:12
